Downtown Farmers Market

Join your friends and neighbors on Saturday, August 7th at the Morristown Downtown Farmers Market for a great time listening to live music, eating delicious foods, a watermelon eating contest, shopping at the market and learning more about what the market has to offer.

Who knew an ear of corn or fresh tomato could improve your health, your community and the environment, all at the same time? Buying local Morristown foods is a simple way to do all three. Local food doesn't suffer the "jet lag" of produce trucked across the country. It puts more money back into Morristown's economy and saves a whole lot of gas.

Farmers markets are a Tennessee tradition. Consumers can find almost anything their hearts desire; fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers and crafts. These markets give consumers a chance to meet the farmer and purchase products directly from the farmer. The city and the DMA have done a lot in the past year to improve the Downtown Market appearance and operation with new regulations and new shelters. The farmers and vendors at the Downtown Market have also contributed a lot with their willingness to improve and adapt to the new changes. We want to have a special celebration at the market to honor those involved and especially the farmers who bring us delicious produce and fruits.

In addition to the live music from 8am - 1pm, we are also planning on having an Antique Tractor show and invite all tractor enthusiast  to bring their tractors for display or sale. It is FREE to enter your antique tractor in this show so bring it on down early Saturday morning and park it facing Morris Blvd.

If the tractor show goes well we will consider having an expanded show in late October during our annual Memories On Main Street Show downtown. If you want to enter your antique tractor simply bring it to the market early Saturday morning anytime prior to 8 am. No pre-registration required. Our plan is to display the tractors on the first row of the market on the Morris Blvd side so the public will see them from the street.

We will also be having several old fashioned contest for fun there and Stacey Hayes from the City will be there to explain the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program and sign up participants. This is the last day to sign up for this years program. SFMNP or "Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program" is a Federally funded nutrition program designed to assist low-income senior citizens. Your Tennessee SFMNP agency provides qualifying seniors with coupons that can be used at eligible community supported agriculture programs, roadside stands, or Farmers Markets in Tennessee for purchase of "fresh, unprocessed, and nutritious fresh-cut herbs, fruits, and vegetables." The Morristown Downtown Market is proud to be one of the largest farmers markets participating in this program and has one of the highest senior coupon redemption rates in the State of Tennessee which shows people are benefiting from participating in the program.
